Hypernym

Definition
Hypernym is the linguistic term for a word that refers to a broad category or a general concept. Its meaning includes the meanings of other, more specific words. So, a hypernym is the superordinate term to several hyponyms.
Example
colour is a hypernym of red, green, blue
red is a hypernym of scarlet, vermilion, carmine, and crimson
vehicle is a hypernym of car, plane, train, bike
