Portfolio

The portfolio is a collection of your results to our weekly tasks. It will comprise three parts, plus references:

A General information on your creole language

  1. Provide some general historical, geographical, demographic, etc information on your creole language.
  2. Provide links to online resources on your language (if possible), including natural texts.

B Definitenss marking in your creole language

  1. Does your creole have a definite article?
  2. Find examples of the definite contexts from class for your creole language. Is a (definite) article used in these examples?
  3. Does your creole language use a definite article where Metropolitan English does not? (for example with proper names)
  4. Summarize your findings (contrasting them with Metropolitan English)
  5. Model the definite article in your creole language. Give an example with various types of nouns (such as proper name, unique, anaphoric definite).

C Tense marking in your creole language

  1. Present the inventory of morphological tense forms of your creole language.
  2. Try to find example sentences with various tense forms and
determine their temporal reference. If you language has no tense forms: find examples with various types of temporal reference! Use a Reichenbachian system.
  3. Provide examples showing whether your language has an absolute or a relative tense system (in embedded clauses and in sequences of clauses)
  4. Provide two sentences in your creole language that use different tense forms. For each of them give the overall logical form of the sentences (focussing on tense)
